Mission Valley Skylight Project Completed
San Diego’s Mission Valley Mall is being reimagined as The Valley. Construction is underway- including three new skylights manufactured and installed by Inter-sky. The project includes two 88’ × 8’ single slope skylights and one 88’ x 32’ ridge skylight. See the entire project unfold below.
The starting point: Three massive openings atop a multi-story commercial structure undergoing a complete remodel.
Over two dozen crates of glass were crane-lifted onto the roof of the job site.
With the frames for each skylight finished, it was time to place the glass lites.
Due to complex roof conditions with limited access around the skylights themselves, crane-setting the glass was the optimal choice. 108 glass lites weighing over 400 lbs each were meticulously set into place via crane.
Before sealing and waterproofing the skylights, strong rainstorms rocked San Diego. The inter-sky team quickly placed tarps over the unfinished skylights to limit any water from entering the building while they waited for the heaviest rain to subside.

After a brief break in the rain, the install team was back at it, preparing to waterproof each skylight system.
Instead of waiting hours for the gaps to dry naturally, our quick-thinking team used squeegees and a leaf blower to dry them out completely, keeping the install on schedule.
Unexpected turns require unexpected solutions.
With all lites sealed and the final cleaning completed, this project is officially finished. The skylights will be open to the public in 2027; The Valley has announced that this site will be home to California’s first Dick’s House of Sport.
